ESTORIAN-MAMI (May 4, 2024)

ESTORIAN-MAMI

Compiled by the NMC Humanities Club

Estorian-Mami, our story, is a student-led campaign aimed at empowering and uplifting voices by allowing Proas to share their story.

In celebration of the NMC Class of 2024, we asked the graduates to reflect on their time at NMC by sharing funny, sad, or happy stories throughout their time as a Proa.

Here are those stories:

I would like to shoutout to my dad, my 2 sons, my significant other, and his family. They all helped me in many ways. Throughout my college journey, my dad supported me from the day I started until the day he passed. Even if he isn’t here physically, I could still feel his presence telling me that I got this. My significant other and his family have been there for me since the day my dad passed away. They always supported me. When I stopped taking classes for a year because I had my two boys and had the worst postpartum, they still supported me in every way till I got back on my feet. And my two boys oh man where do I begin? The smiles on their faces, their laughs, the cuddles, the hugs and kisses, the “I love you mommy” etc., it just keeps me going.

I'd like to give a shoutout to all the friends who have supported me throughout my college journey. Whether it was staying up late to study together, providing a listening ear during stressful times, or celebrating milestones and achievements, my friends have been a constant source of encouragement and support. Thank you to all my fellow students who have become like family, making college an unforgettable experience! ??

-

Special shout-out to my four children for always pushing me and believing in my ability to achieve my goals. There were times when many people, even family and friends, doubted that I could do it while also taking care of my kids. My children always motivated me to believe in my dreams and go for what I want the most. Thank you for believing in me

-

Shout out to Mayor RB Camacho (My Grandfather) and Delia M. Camacho (Grandmother) for always supporting me and pushing me towards furthering my education. Without them, finding my passion, earning my degree in special education, and serving my students would not have been possible. I owe it all to my grandparents.

Shout out to Ms. Velma DLG for showing me the right path as I entered my college journey. She showed me the many things that I should focus on and build such a network to help me get through college and prepare myself for the workforce.

Shout out to Ms. Lisa Lunde for being an awesome person to go to when I needed help the most, in regard to academics. She was not only just a teacher, but she was also a person who showed that she cared and believed I could do something in my life.

Shout out to Ms. Charlene Masiwemai for always guiding me and always assisting me in any question I had in regard to the SOE program. This is a big shout out because I truly did not know what I was getting into.

Shout out to Dr. Randy Yates for showing me the ways of how to be a great educator in the field of Special Education. He shared many of his experiences and showed me how to handle certain situations while doing my student teaching. He is one of the best teachers that I've ever encountered during my time at NMC.

Shout out to the principal and vice principals of Kagman High, Mr. Benjamin Jones Jr., Ms. Shirley Norita, And Ms. Francis Bondoc for always supporting and working with me while furthering my education.

Shout out to Mr. Richard Masiwemai for being a great Mentor teacher while doing my student teaching. He truly showed me the ways in special education and how to be an effective teacher.

  • Jeremiah S. Camacho

Going through the nursing program has been a very challenging time in my life, but the right group of people made the experience more enjoyable. I would like to thank and shout out Rheanie Valle, Cassie Matta, Jaiden Sabugo, Timothy Park, and Davean Gonzales for all the support and guidance throughout this time. They inspire me to do my best and encourage me to never give up, despite how difficult each semester in nursing got. We are in our last semester of nursing and we are still standing strong and I will forever be thankful to have met such studious, hard-working, and fun group of people. But most importantly, I would like to thank and shoutout my family who has worked tirelessly to support me throughout this time. They have without a doubt been there from the beginning, providing emotional, physical, and financial support. I could not have pursued and continued this journey without their help and words of advice. I am very grateful to have such good support systems throughout this time.

I would like to give a big shout out to the SOE (School of Education) Program and the students. Our program has a lot of amazing individuals, all of them are natural leaders and the most caring individuals out there! I think I wouldn't be able to achieve all of my goals without each and everyone of them. We always had each other's backs! Always made sure that we supported each other through attending classes, hanging out, SOE Club Meetings/Events, or even planning self-care days as a class. From my advisors (Mr. Jesse Pangelinan & Dr. Beylul Solomon), to the SOE Instructors/Staffs, and to the students enrolled under SOE program- nothing but the greatest support system that I have during my college journey. Incredibly thankful for my SOE family!

-

I would like to thank my friends and family for their countless support throughout my college journey. First , I would like to thank God, for guiding me in my college journey and being there to help me in times I have struggled. To my family, I want to thank them for their support in finally helping me in achieving my goals to become a nurse and maybe in the future, a pediatric nurse practitioner. To my aunt and cousin, for bringing me back here and for helping me in the things I need when I really need them and for helping me financially. And to my group of friends, I hope you know who you are, for being there to support me and each other mentally and emotionally and getting through the nursing program together, we all made it!

-

I just want to take this opportunity to thank all the instructors and staff that have patiently worked with me throughout my student career at NMC. I know there are days that I could be absolutely persistent, but everyone has been so accommodating of my needs. So thank you! I could not be where I am today if it were not for all your continued assistance. I am grateful beyond words, and I only hope that you can give future students the same support you all had given me. <3

  • "Sketch" Allen

I would like to thank one of my closest friends, Darlyn Ubarra. We are each other's backbone. Without each other I don’t think we would have gotten this far into being an Rehabilitation and Human Services major. We keep each other on track and humbled. Though the ups and downs came we still managed to get through.

-

Throughout my college journey, my mother has been my biggest supporter. She would stay up late and help me with papers, presentations, and studying. If it weren't for her, I don't know how far along I would've given up. A special shoutout to my mama <3

  • Leana Otiwii

First and foremost, it would be my partner Lenny with NMC’s ABE department; he has always been a big supporter of my educational and life goals. SOE for always believing in one another and being a great support not just, academically, but socially, emotionally and physically. Special shoutout to: Mrs. Amanda, Dr. Solomon, Mr. Merar (aka. Mulan) and Mr. Jesse!

  • Ariel Mike T. Villagomez

I’d really like to shout out Dr Randy Yates! He was my professor for Speech and Communications and it was probably one of the best classes I had taken. It’s probably because I talk so much, but at least I was able to learn how to let my words flow smoothly. lol

-

Ms.Amanda, Ms.Rose, and Dr.Yates for motivating us to make our way to the finish line. They are more than just advisors and instructors, they are those one in a million individuals with the light - with that special power to “light” our candles.

-

Throughout my AA, I'd like to send a shout out to my circle who stuck around till we made it. Although we may have gone our separate ways now, I know as soon as we link up, it'll be like we never even parted ways.

As for my BS, I'd love to send a special shoutout to my partner whoever has been my main motivation to get my BS in the first place. She has been the reason I constantly push myself to do better and try new things.

-

Mr. Roland Merar and Mr. Jesse Pangelinan. They always gave me the push I needed and the words of encouragement to stay on the trail to betterment.
