About this Position

The Extension Agent is a non-instructional faculty member of the Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services (NMC CREES) located on Saipan. This position works under the direct supervision of the Nutrition & Health Programs Program Leader or his/her designee. The Extension Agent works with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective implementation of the food systems and Walk and Roll on Wednesday (WOW) & Children’s Healthy Living (CHL) initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited institution plus four (4) years of experience in Nutrition, Health, Youth Development, or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in Program Review and Outcomes Assessment (PROA) activities as guided by NMC PROAC for the Nutrition and Health Programs;
  • Demonstrates the core values of NMC CREES through everyday actions to maintain a collaborative and transparent workplace culture;
  • Studies and maps food systems and the flow of food to gather insights that inform program strategies;
  • Assists with the planning, design, and implementation of the food waste study, including objectives, methods, and metrics in close collaboration with program leader;
  • Collaborates with PSS, Head Start, and other community partners to identify opportunities for reducing food waste;
  • Coordinates and implements food waste reduction strategies, ensuring effective collection and analysis of relevant data;
  • Prepares reports and communicates findings to stakeholders and the community;
  • Coordinates project logistics and collaborate with partners and extension staff;
  • Provides training to extension staff;
  • Oversees and coordinates weekly WOW outreach activities and scheduled agency outreaches on Saipan;
  • Collaborates with Tinian and Rota Extension Aides to coordinate and support monthly WOW outreaches and scheduled agency outreaches;
  • Engages with government agencies, private organizations, and other stakeholders to promote and expand WOW initiatives;
  • Maintains up-to-date and secure participant records and compiles relevant reports;
  • Generates simple descriptive statistics of WOW data;
  • Works closely with the NMC CREES Media team to plan and implement promotional and marketing strategies;
  • Reviews and updates the WOW Outreach Procedural Manual and outreach forms to reflect current practices and standards;
  • Creates culturally relevant, science-based diabetes prevention educational materials, including fact sheets, handouts, and brochures tailored to the CNMI community;
  • Maintains accurate inventory records and oversees the procurement and maintenance of outreach supplies and equipment;
  • Plans and schedules regular trainings for WOW staff and volunteers to build capacity and ensure consistent, quality outreach delivery;
  • Participates in diabetes prevention events and activities organized by partners, including but not limited to the CNMI Non-communicable Disease (NCO) Task Force and the Diabetes Awareness Month Committee;
  • Plans and facilitates partnership update meetings to ensure ongoing collaboration and information sharing;
  • Actively learns about diabetes prevention and education to strengthen program relevance and effectiveness;
  • Confers regularly with immediate supervisor regarding program updates and needs and related matters;
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners in order to address the appropriate goals and objectives described in the CREES POW (Plan of Work);
  • Assists with the implementation of Nutrition & Health Programs competitive grants as needed;
  • Participates in in-service training programs as required, as well as frequent inter-island travel during specific periods of time;
  • Requires availability for non-standard work hours, usually once weekly, with additional occurrences as dictated by events;
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of program initiatives.

Essential Functions of the Position

Must be able to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. The individual in this position will frequently communicate with students and their colleague(s) in order to exchange information in various situations. This position requires standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking and  lifting office products and outreach materials and supplies, weighing up to 20 Ibs.The employee may be tasked to work outdoors in the sun and heat, on or around wet surfaces, and other areas exposed to the elements.
