NMC Board of Regents Reopens Presidential Search (December 10, 2010)

In its Special Meeting held on December 10, 2010, the NMC Board of Regents voted to reopen the search for NMC president. Details of the reopened search will be posted on this website as soon as possible. The following is a full text of a statement read by BOR Chair Paz Younis to members of the media after the Special Meeting:

Good afternoon and thank you for being here today. The purpose of this press conference is to provide more information to the community, especially our students, about the search for the next President of the Northern Marianas College.
First, I want to recognize the hard work that the members of the Presidential Search Committee, led by Sergeant Edward Camacho, have placed in selecting the finalists, and we thank them for their service. They have been extremely efficient and diligent in their work and they should all be commended.
The Presidential Search Committee had transmitted the names of two finalists to the Board of Regents on October 7, 2010. One of them withdrew, and the Board interviewed the remaining candidate on December 3, 2010. In its Special Meeting held earlier, the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents unanimously decided to reopen the search for the next College president.
We have a high level of respect for the skills and experience of the finalists, and I must stress that this was not an easy decision for the members of the Board. Nonetheless, the selection of a president is one of the most important duties that we have as Board members and we must be highly confident in our selection for the benefit of our students, staff, faculty and the community.
As we continue the search for a new president, we ask the members of the College community to continue the excellent achievements that they continue to accomplish on a daily basis. We also thank Interim President Lorraine Cabrera as she continues to lead the College during the search extension.
We want to reassure the College community that our priority remains with hiring a president. The search process will continue with integrity, transparency, and efficiency, as we encourage everyone to visit the NMC website to read regular updates about the search.
    Thank you.
