NMC Names New Director for Library Programs and Services (October 26, 2010)

The Northern Marianas College has appointed Matthew Pastula as the new director for Library Programs and Services. He will manage the Olympio T. Borja Memorial Library, CNMI Archives and Curriculum Resource Center, ensuring their information and services are readily available to students, faculty, staff, and community members.

“We are delighted to have Matthew as part of the NMC team,” said NMC interim president Lorraine Cabrera. “His extensive experience with various information and library technologies will be beneficial to the management and improvement of library services.”

Pastula has had a decade of work experience in higher education and a strong background in Information Technology.

Prior to joining the NMC team, Pastula worked as a College Liaison Librarian at a major university in Wellington, New Zealand. At the university, he provided information services for students and faculty, managed the information desk staff, created online learning materials, and taught information literacy skills.

During his time in Wellington, Pastula also worked as an analyst for the New Zealand government. Prior to moving overseas, he worked at the Oakland Community College in Michigan, one of the largest community colleges in the United States.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work as director of the library at the Northern Marianas College,” said Pastula. “I look forward to working in a college environment again since that is where I began my postsecondary education.”

Pastula went on to earn his Master’s degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, and completed his postgraduate studies at Victoria University in Wellington.
