21 Individuals Complete Child Care Training by NMC and DCCA (August 9, 2010)

The second cohort of three groups of caretakers from various child daycares around the CNMI recently completed a professional development training program facilitated by the Northern Marianas College.

NMC’s Community Development Institute awarded 21 participants certificates of completion in the Infant & Toddler Care Training Program on July 23, 2010 at NMC As Terlaje campus in Room D-1.

The program was offered through an agreement between the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs' (DCCA) Child Care Program and NMC's Community Development Institute (CDI), which is a program under NMC’s Division of Community Programs and Services that also offers a variety of other developmental courses in a range of fields.

"I am proud that these individuals have taken the initiative to enhance their professional skills and knowledge in child care,” said NMC Interim President. “I am also glad that this program will help them improve child care services and programs in the CNMI.”

The 21 participants from the second cohort successfully completed a total of 70 hours of instruction during the three-month long program. Topics that were covered include social-emotional growth and socialization, group care, learning and development, cultural and familial issues, and health and safety considerations.

"I would like to thank the staff of DCCA and CDI for all the hard work they have put into carrying out the program," said DCCA Secretary Melvin O. Faisao. "I also encourage other agencies and individuals to look to NMC for their professional and training needs."

The third cohort of the program is scheduled to begin later this month.
