NMC-CREES Sets Training on Proper Use of Pesticides (June 14, 2010)

The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service program and the Division of Environmental Quality will be sponsoring a workshop geared toward educating the public on the use of restricted pesticides.

The Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Workshop is designed for commercial pest control applicators that commonly use restricted pest control substances. Some of the most common commercial establishments who require such pesticides are plant nurseries, landscapers, golf courses, and hotels.

Workshop presentations will focus on the principles of pest control, weed science, the disease triangle, pest biology, laws and regulations, environment, loading and transportation, and pesticide label and math calibration.

Participants are encouraged to attend, complete all training courses, and pass examinations to ensure eligibility for purchase and use of such restricted pesticides.

The workshop will be held at the Saipan Grand Hotel on June 22 to 25 from 8:30am to 4:30pm on each day. Registration fee is $20.

For more information, contact Arnold Route at the NMC CREES office at 234-5498 ext. 1432 or Reina Camacho at DEQ at 664-8505.
