NMC to Hold Auditions for Charter Day Competitions (April 7, 2010)

The Northern Marianas College 2010 Charter Day Committee will be holding auditions for the celebration’s three main competitions: the Marianas Idol, Charter Day Dance Crew Challenge, and Battle of the Bands.

Marianas Idol auditions will be held on April 21-22, Charter Day Dance Crew on April 26-27, and Battle of the Bands on April 19-20. Finalist selection will be held on April 28-29.

All auditions will begin at 5:00 pm at the NMC Student Center. Finalists for all three competitions will be performing at the Charter Day festivities on May 7.

The competitions will be judged on categories that include stage presentation, entertainment value, and overall performance. Six finalists will be selected for Marianas Idol, three crews for the Dance Crew Competition Challenge, and three bands for Battle of the Bands.

Those interested in competing may pick up an application form from the NMC Student Center in Building J at the College’s As Terlaje campus. There is no application fee for any of the competitions.

The Charter Day festivities will also be featuring several well-known entertainment groups from the island, including the INATUAS & Pacific Flowers dance groups, Maggie Naputi, the Black Sand band, and the newly formed rap group, Fatal Hitz.

The event will also hold special college competitions such as the Pika Proa Hot Pepper Eating Contest and the Coconut Husking Contest, along with the first ever Campus King & Queen Contest.

In addition to the exciting entertainment, there will also be several vendors featuring island delicacies, local accessories and apparel, snack booths and drink concessions.
