NMC-CREES Hosts Workshops on Livestock Healthcare and Management (October 26, 2009)

The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service (NMC-CREES) will be hosting two series of workshops, one focused on Alternative Herbal Medicine for Livestock Healthcare in the Western Pacific and the other on the Extension Outreach and Assistance in Improved Pasture and Livestock Management Practices. Local animal healthcare professionals, agriculture extension personnel, and local farmers and ranchers are highly encouraged to attend.

The Alternative Herbal Medicine for Livestock Healthcare in the Western Pacific workshops will cover a variety of topics, including the current CNMI animal health status, and alternative resources for feed processing. Funding for these workshops is provided by the Western Sustainable Agricultural Research and Education (WSARE) Grant.

NMC-CREES will also lead the Extension Outreach and Assistance in Improved Pasture and Livestock Management Practices workshops with experts from the University of Hawaii and the University of the Virgin Islands. Funds for these workshops are provided by the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

The workshops will take place in November on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. Each workshop will consist of lectures, demonstrations, field days, and consultations lead by NMC-CREES staff members and other experts from various organizations.

There is no fee to attend a workshop, but seating is limited.

The Alternative Herbal Medicine for Livestock Healthcare in the Western Pacific workshops will be conducted on the following dates:

November 2-3 9:00am ” 4:00 pm NMC-Rota Instructional Site
November 24-25 9:00am ” 4:00 pm Saipan World Resort Conference Room
November 30 9:00am ” 4:00 pm NMC-Tinian Instructional Site

The Extension Outreach and Assistance in Improved Pasture and Livestock Management Practices workshops will be conducted on the following dates:

November 11-13 9:00am ” 4:00 pm NMC-Rota Instructional Site
November 17-19 9:00am ” 3:30 pm Fleming Restaurant (Tinian, MP)
