NMC Board of Regents Elects New Officers (July 23, 2008)

The Northern Marianas College today announced the election of new officers of the Board of Regents. The new leadership assumed their responsibilities at the conclusion of their regular meeting held last Friday on July 18, 2008.

Charles V. Cepeda, currently the general manager of Pacific Trading Company, has been elected as Chairperson of the Board of Regents. Maria “Malua” T. Peter, former Congresswoman who served for four terms and who now works with the NMI Head Start Program, will serve as the Vice Chairperson of the Board as well as the Chairperson of the Board’s Legislative Committee. President Emeritus Agnes M. McPhetres has been elected as Treasurer o! f the Board and designated Chairperson of the Program Committee.

"I am honored to have this opportunity to work with an accomplished and capable group of board members,” said Chairperson-elect Cepeda. “I look forward to partnering with President Carmen Fernandez and the administration to ensure the College regains full accreditation and continues to play a central role in the educational advancement of our people.”

Other members of the Board have been appointed by Chairperson Cepeda to head key committees. Janet H. King, who works as an attorney at the CNMI Public Defender’s Office, will chair the Fiscal Committee, and Elaine Hocog Orilla will chair the Personnel Committee. Also serving on the Board of Regents are Dr. Rita Hocog Inos, outgoing Board Chairperson, and Linsa F. Lizama.

“While new leadership takes the helm of the Board, it is important that we recognize the contributions of Dr. Rita Hocog Inos and former Vice Chairperson Joey P. San Nicolas,” added Cepeda. “The College has made tremendous progress under their guidance.”
