NMC Nursing Instructor Retires (July 2, 2009)

After making a positive difference in the lives of many students, Ms. Cindy Tice, a nursing instructor, is retiring from the Northern Marianas College after 11 years of teaching.

“Cindy has been a respected and well-loved member of the Northern Marianas College family for more than a decade,” said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “She has been extremely effective in making a positive impact not only on NMC’s nursing program, but also in the educational advancement of our students.”

“We will definitely miss her, and wish her well on her retirement,” said Pas Calvo, acting chairperson of NMC’s Nursing Department.

Tice had recently been awarded the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Wooster, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. The notification was made in a letter by David Gillis, who sits on the Wooster Alumni Board and who chairs the Distinguished Alumni Award Committee.

According to Gillis, the award is the “highest award given to our alumni by the Alumni Association and the College.”

Tice was honored at the Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony in Ohio on June 5, 2009 as part of Wooster’s Alumni Weekend event.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to alumni who have distinguished themselves in one or more of the following areas: professional career; service to humanity; and service to Wooster. Alumni are selected who exemplify Wooster's dedication to excellence and its commitment to service.

Some of the recent recipients of the award include Donald L. Kohn, Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve; Stanley C. Gault, former CEO of Rubbermaid Corporation; Timothy P. Smucker, chairman of the J.M. Smucker Company; and Susan Q. Stranahan, Pulitzer Prize winning writer.

“We congratulate Cindy and thank her for bringing such distinction to the College,” said President Fernandez.
