Community Invited to Charter Day Celebration (May 7, 2009)

Students, staff, and faculty of the Northern Marianas College are inviting members of the community to join in on the 28th Annual Charter Day festivities tonight from 4pm to 11pm.

Headlining the event will be the Marianas Idol, Charter Day Dance Crew, and Battle of the Bands competitions. NMC held auditions for the competitions earlier this week, and five finalists were selected for Marianas Idol, three teams for Charter Day Dance Crew, and three groups for Battle of the Bands.

The Charter Day festivities will also be showcasing the talent and performances of several well-known groups on the island, including Uncle Ben’s, local dance group Inatuas Cultural Dancers, Carolinian Warriors, and Kings & Dreamers. Tonight's event will also include a performance from local entertainer Maggie Naputi and the Go For Broke Band.

In addition to the exciting entertainment, there will also be several vendors featuring island delicacies, specialty drinks, and other items for sale. Food, snacks, and drinks will be sold at 3’s, Poons, Magie’s, Shirley’s Coffee Shop, Cherry, Champs, Mr. Smoothie, Java Joes, Lynn’s, Alliance, Sierra’s, the NMC Library Legendary Guild, the Chamorro Club, the Carolinian Cultural Club, the NMC Spirit Squad, and the Upward Bound Program. Clothing and other accessories will be sold by the NMC Bookstore, Fotten Gaga, and The Set. Other booths will have games for kids.

The NMC Recruitment Committee will also be hosting a booth at the celebration. Individuals seeking to find out more information or enroll in the 2009 Summer and Fall semesters can pick up applications and waivers for the application and placement test fees at the booth.

Sponsors for the event include IT&E, Power 99, Pepsi, Shell Marianas, and Ericco Enterprises.
