Marianas Variety: Frankie Eliptico named NMC interim president (August 27, 2018)

FRANKIE Eliptico, Northern Marianas College’s vice president of administration and advancement, has been appointed interim president of NMC.

In a memorandum issued by Board of Regents Chairman Charles Cepeda, dated Aug. 22, he asked the NMC community to extend their “usual cooperation and support to Vice President Eliptico as he assumes the additional duties and responsibilities that come with this appointment.”

The appointment came after NMC Dr. Carmen Fernandez informed the board that she will not seek the renewal of her two-year employment contract which ends in October.

Eliptico has been with NMC for 11 years. He started working for the college as marketing manager. He was then promoted to external relations director, and held the position of dean of institutional advancement. He is currently the vice president of administration and advancement.

His work in the NMC’s marketing and branding efforts has been recognized nationally and he was named “Communicator of the Year” in the District VI region of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. The district includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, and other states.

“I’m thankful for the Board of Regents’ confidence,” said Eliptico. “It’s a privilege to serve in this capacity, and I pledge to work with the tremendously talented NMC staff and faculty to continue the important work of serving our students.”

In a separate memorandum, Cepeda also stated that “we welcome all new students, returning students, faculty, staff and management [to the Fall 2018 semester] with the sincere pledge that the Board of Regents will provide the proper guidance and direction needed during this transition period while the President Search Committee is established and begins the process of identifying a short list of candidates for the board’s consideration.”

He added, “We remain committed to NMC’s mission and will work with the interim president to ensure that the college continues to provide a high quality standard of education and services during the transition.”
