NMC, NMTI happy to be included on list of casino fund beneficiaries. (September 11, 2017)

NORTHERN Marianas College and the Northern Marianas Trade Institute are glad to be included on the list of agencies and programs that would receive Saipan casino tax funds as proposed in House Bill 20-99.

Introduced by Rep. Angel Demapan, the measure is now on the governor’s desk.

NMC President Carmen Fernandez, in an interview on Friday, said: “The government doesn’t have enough money to fully support our projects. That’s the reason why we are not able to implement some programs. But under the bill, we will have guaranteed funding now and we are very, very happy about it. This will be very helpful to supplement our needs.”

NMTI director Dave Attao, in a separate interview, said: “NMTI is very grateful; we appreciate all the help from the central government, the Legislature and the community. NMTI has very limited income so additional funding will give allow us to fund more programs for our students.”
