WIC Employees Complete Communication Training (February 15, 2011)

The Northern Marianas College Community Development Institute (CDI), a program under the Division of Community Programs and Services (COMPASS), recently recognized staff members and managers of the Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) program who completed professional development training on “Communication in the Workplace”.

The eighteen individuals who completed the training are Thelma Ada, Imelda Benavente, Carmen Cabrera, Erin Angela Camacho, Frankie Castro, Thomas Castro, Julie Mae Cruz, Giovannie Gomez, Hermis Jim, Estella Kaipat, Barbara Pangelinan, Ponce Rasa, Pauline Roligat, Roma Nei Romolar, Leila Jo Rosario, Luisa Le Santos, Irene Sigrah, and Fabian Ulloa.

The objective of the course was to ensure that the participants are able to define communication and distinguish between effective and ineffective communication techniques as well as cite common barriers to effective communication. In addition, the participants of the course learned how to apply listening skills, identify body language, and discuss the importance of good attitude in the communication process.

This training helped the staff members of the WIC program improve their communication skills in order to better serve the people they work with.

The Community Development Institute provides a variety of programs accessible and affordable to the general public, ranging from specialized academic courses and non-traditional courses to customized training such as “computer literacy”. CDI also offers various courses that are geared towards personal enrichment and outreach.

For more information about these programs, please contact CDI at 234-5498 ext 1010 or send an email to CDI Program Manager Les Ogumoro-Uludong at [email protected] You may also log on to www.nmcnet.edu.
