28 Submit Application for NMC President (February 4, 2011)

The Northern Marianas College Presidential Search Committee today announced that 28 individuals have submitted their application to become the next president of the College.

The figure was communicated from representatives of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), a national nonprofit educational association that has assisted numerous other colleges and universities with their search for a CEO/President. The organization was tapped by the NMC Board of Regents to assist with the initial stages of the presidential search process.

“We are glad to see that many individuals have demonstrated their interest in this important position,” said Andrew Orsini, chairperson of the Presidential Search Committee. “After further reviewing the applications, the Committee will be ready in the next few days to commence the interview portion of the selection process.”

In its meeting last Friday, the Committee members confirmed that they are working to categorize and finalize the questions that will be used during the interview.

“Based on our extensive deliberations, the questions that we will be posing to the candidates will cover a number of areas,” Orsini added. “Each Committee member will be asking questions related to their respective backgrounds.”

In addition to Chairperson Orsini, the other members of the Presidential Search Committee include: David Sablan, President, Century Insurance Company; John Oliver Gonzales, Executive Director, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and NMC Alumnus; Jesus Elameto, Retiree and former PSS Administrator; Juanita Mendiola, Former Tinian Municipal Council Chairperson; Barbara Merfalen, Dean, NMC Academic Programs and Services; and Antonio Tiples, President, Associated Students of the Northern Marianas College.

The Presidential Search Committee meets weekly and posts updates to the President Search page on the NMC website. Updates regarding the search can be viewed by visiting
