CH 124 General Chemistry (4)
General Chemistry is a rigorous introductory course covering the principles of chemistry and the application of these principles to technological society. Included are the principles of inorganic chemistry, with emphasis on nomenclature, stoichiometry, mathematical calculations and solution chemistry. A weekly laboratory is required. CH 124 is a foundation course for allied health sciences, and other career fields. This course is not open to students who have successfully completed CH 100. English Placement Level: EN 101 . Math Placement level: MA 132.

CH 141 Survey of Organic and Biochemistry (4)
This course is an introduction to organic and biological chemistry, nomenclature, common functional groups, their chemical properties and reaction, with an emphasis on understanding the basic molecules that make up cells and the biochemical reactions that allow cells to function. This course is designed for majors in allied health and science, and education majors seeking a science endorsement but is open to all students. A weekly laboratory is required. Prerequisite: CH 124 or CH 100. English Placement Level: EN 101. Math Placement Level: MA 132.

NS 100 Introduction to Earth Sciences (4)
This course is designed to be an introductory tour of our physical environment and Earth’s place in the universe. This course will cover the foundations of geology, oceanography, astronomy, and meteorology. It will probe the origins, physical properties, and dynamics of the Earth as an integrated system. Students will engage in structured lectures and discussions and conduct hands-on investigations in the laboratory. English Placement Level: EN 93/94. Math Placement Level: MA 090.

NS 101 Introduction to Physical Sciences (4)
This is a survey course covering the fundamental concepts and methods of physical science, such as the scientific method, measurement, motion, force, energy, heat, waves, electricity and magnetism, chemistry, geology, and astronomy. Laboratory and field trips are required. English Placement Level: EN 093/094. Math Placement Level: MA 132.
