Applications for PIC Scholarship Now Available at NMC (April 28, 2010)

Application forms for the Pacific Islands Club Saipan Scholarship are now available for pick up at the Northern Marianas College Financial Aid Office and will be made available for download at the College’s website at www.nmcnet.edu by the end of the week. The deadline to submit the application and all other required documents is July 2, 2010.

The PIC Saipan Scholarship will be providing seven NMC students $500 a semester for up to three semesters. The College offers associate’s degrees in business administration, liberal arts, nursing, natural resource management, criminal justice, and hospitality management.

The scholarships are based on merit and financial need and will be awarded to the recipient on the bases of the candidate’s community involvement, academic background, letters of recommendation, and a written essay. An interview may also be required.

To be eligible, a student must be a U.S. citizen (or green card holder) and a CNMI resident for the past three years; be accepted and enrolled as a full-time student at NMC; have a high school or college cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better; and, be able to demonstrate financial need.

The purpose of the scholarship is to promote higher education by providing financial assistance for college students in their pursuit of professional careers, to help alleviate the critical current and future shortage of skilled and trained workforce for the CNMI, and to provide current public and private sector employees with opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills and enhance their career and professional development.
