NMC Alumna Set to Graduate from Gonzaga University (January 7, 2010)

There is no question that the Northern Marianas College continues to produce some of the finest and most talented college graduates.

This coming spring semester, Chellette San Nicolas, an alumna of NMC, will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Gonzaga University. San Nicolas graduated with her Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts from NMC the same year she graduated from high school at the Northern Marianas Academy, a college preparatory high school, in 2007.

“It was comforting to know that I was able to transfer a majority of my credits from NMC to Gonzaga,” said San Nicolas, who was able to transfer all but two classes taken at NMC””philosophy and studio for non-majors. Because of her minor in philosophy program at Gonzaga, San Nicolas was required to take the philosophy course at Gonzaga.

“The best thing about going to NMC was that I got to be prepared for some of the aspects of college life, most importantly when it came to important academic situations, like choosing and scheduling the right classes,” said San Nicolas.

After graduating from Gonzaga, San Nicolas plans to pursue a master’s degree in Public Administration and Policy, a field about which she is extremely passionate. Looking beyond that, she stated that law school may also be an option but her aim at the moment is to complete her master’s degree.

“Right now, my focus is on the next step because, like my dad says ”˜Set a goal, achieve it, and then set another one,’” said San Nicolas.

NMC has played a major role in the great achievements of many of its alumni by thoroughly preparing its graduates for successful careers in a great range of professions.

“We are extremely proud of Chellette’s accomplishment,” said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “We also applaud her continued efforts at Gonzaga and admire her future goals of attaining higher education.”
