NMC Names Deleon Guerrero to Institutional Effectiveness Post (July 20, 2009)

The Northern Marianas College has named Galvin Sablan Deleon Guerrero, a prominent educator and former Board of Regents member, as its new director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership and support in developing and overseeing a comprehensive and sustainable program of evaluation and feedback to enhance the effectiveness of the College’s programs and services with special emphasis on learning outcomes.

As its director, Deleon Guerrero will be leading the institution’s comprehensive strategic assessment plan and working with the College leadership and other employees to assess and monitor the institution’s effectiveness in achieving its mission and purposes.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to help the College fulfill its mission, goals, and objectives,” said Deleon Guerrero.

“I am extremely pleased to be making this appointment,” said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “Galvin is a seasoned educator and administrator with vision and determination as well as exceptional leadership skills.”

Prior to becoming the Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Deleon Guerrero worked for Mount Carmel School, where he served as its principal for four years. Deleon Guerrero had also served the school in other roles, including working as the director of institutional development, vice principal, and high school teacher.

“His extensive professional background makes him uniquely qualified to help our campus strengthen the link between strategic planning, program review, and resource allocation,” added President Fernandez. “His addition to the NMC family will definitely ensure the College’s continued growth and success.”

Deleon Guerrero had also been employed at the Office of the CNMI Governor, where he worked as special assistant for special projects. In that capacity he implemented former Governor Juan Babauta’s Education Initiative and assisted in planning and implementing various community projects.

He has received numerous awards and accolades and has been involved in many professional and community organizations, including the Council for the Arts, the CNMI Council for the Humanities, and the Association of Community College Trustees. Deleon Guerrero is also well-known for having organized numerous theatrical productions that featured performances by Mount Carmel students.
