NMC Awards 144 Degrees, 65 Certificates, and 36 Diplomas in Today’s Graduation Ceremony (May 24, 2008)

Marking another historic milestone in the Northern Marianas College’s pursuit of advancing the personal and professional lives of all people of the CNMI, the college today awarded 144 degrees, 65 certificates and 36 diplomas in its 28th Commencement Exercises.

"Today’s graduation celebrates a major accomplishment for all our students,” said Dr. Carmen Fernandez, NMC President. “I am thankful many community members were able to attend the ceremony as our graduates prepare to assume important positions of responsibility and leadership in our society."

The degrees awarded include 28 Bachelor Degrees in Elementary Education; 38 Associate Degrees in Arts; 38 Associate Degrees in Applied Sciences; 13 Associate Degrees in Science; 27 Masters Degrees (Framingham); 59 Certificates of Completion; 6 Certificates of Achievement; and 36 GED/Adult School Diplomas.

Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, who is Bank of Guam’s President and Chief Executive Officer, delivered the keynote address. Leon Guerrero, who also serves as the chair of Bank of Guam’s Board, had served as a senator for four terms in Guam’s Legislature. She is also a member of the Guam Nurses Association.

In addition to the keynote address, the graduation program also featured the presentation of academic achievement awards and student leadership wards, welcoming remarks by Dr. Fernandez, and an invocation from Father Ryan Jimenez.
