NMC Recovery Update (November 16, 2018)

When will classes resume?

We have construction crews on campus working to repair the extensive damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu. Our team has been exploring temporary, alternate sites on Saipan to continue classes for our students. The target date for the continuation of classes is Dec. 3, 2018 (for afternoon and evening classes), but that date may be adjusted. More detailed announcements in regards to the resumption of Fall 2018 class schedule and an adjusted Spring 2019 class schedule will be available within the next few days. Please continue to check our NMC’s website or social media platforms for updated news.

Information Session for NMC Students (Optional for NMC Students)

Information about NMC’s updated class schedule, financial aid, and other announcements will be made on NMC’s website and social media platforms. Furthermore, NMC will be hosting information sessions to provide these updates in person on Friday, November 23, 2018, at the American Memorial Park Theater. There will be two sessions from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm. Attendance at these information sessions is NOT required. The information sessions provide another additional opportunity for students to receive updates and ask questions.

Reaching NMC Staff through phone

NMC landlines are still down from the storm. To reach staff members, please call the student information hotlines between 8:30am and 4:30pm on weekdays: (670) 285-7651 / (670) 285-2059. Thank you to IT&E Saipan for making these phone lines available.

Resource Center

The Student Resource Center at NMC center is available for students, faculty, and staff to access computers that can be used to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Disaster Assistance or U.S. Small Business Loans online. Other services available at the Resource Center include:

  • Computers
  • Internet/Wifi
  • Printing/Scanning (if available)
  • Phone/Laptop Charging Stations
  • Disaster Relief Information–shelter and food, relief, medical, and other services
  • Counseling – Speak with one of our counselors on-site to address academic questions/concerns, personal concerns, coping mechanisms, and much more
  • Mentoring – Speak with one of our peer mentors on-site for peer support
  • Volunteer/Internship Information

Scholarship Deadlines for Spring 2019

Northern Marianas College has communicated with SHEFA and CNMI Scholarship regarding scholarship deadlines for Spring 2019. Deadline for SHEFA applications is December 1, 2018. The deadline for CNMI Scholarship has been extended to December 31, 2018. All supporting documents are due by February 28, 2019. APIASF Online Application is ongoing until January 2019.

NMC Offices Open for Students

NMC Offices will be open from 9am to 4pm beginning Monday, November 19, 2018. Please park behind Building P as all other parking spaces on campus remain off limits for students. Some offices on campus have been relocated to temporary locations in Buildings K, N, O, and P as recovery and rebuilding activities take place:

NMC Students Safety and Security on Campus

Northern Marianas College values the safety and security of all students, staff, and faculty so please stay within Buildings K, N, O, and P while on campus. All other areas on campus are restricted. Student Parking is available behind Building P. Restrooms are open in Building N and P. Please can contact NMC Security at (670)287-4218 or 911 in an emergency situation.
