Marianas Variety: NMC celebrates diversity (May 15, 2017)

NORTHERN Marianas College held one of the liveliest island events of the year, Charter Day, which commemorated the institution’s founding 36 years ago. The celebration was held on Friday, May 12, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the NMC south field next to the gymnasium.

The event featured many diverse performers including the Blue Dragon Taekwondo Group. According to Master Yun, his group has been active for 12 years now. He said they perform in many special community events including the Flame Tree Arts Festival and Taste of Marianas. They will continue to share Korean culture with the local people in the CNMI.

Also performing during the NMC Charter Day celebration were the Studio 29:11 and Tiul Belau dancers who entertained the audience with their exciting moves.

Singers also performed to further highlight the beauty of cultural diversity in the CNMI. Among them was Parker Yamazaki Yobei who performed his legendary hit song remix, “Bomsoro.”

Many members of the audience said the Charter Day celebration was the year’s most exciting island event so far.
