Saipan Tribune: NMC Career Fair: Biggest in recent years (May 10, 2017)

The Northern Marianas College 2017 Career Fair held last April 27 was easily the largest career fair the lone community college of the CNMI conducted since 2011, as reported by representatives of the college.

The NMC Career Fair was attended by 400 participants and over 50 employers such as Joeten Enterprises, Triple J Corp., Pacifica Insurance Inc., Saipan World Resort, Mariana Resort & Spa, and numerous newcomers such as the 500 Sails organization, to name a few. Also present at the career fair were government agencies such as the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

According to NMC career manager Neda C. Deleon Guerrero, hotel industry companies, private businesses, and government agencies have always participated in the NMC Career Fair.

“It’s been growing. We used to have 13 agencies come out for a career fair. Today, we have over 50 companies that participated in the event,” said Deleon Guerrero.

Deleon Guerrero said that back in 2011, the NMC Career Fair was held in room D1 of the college. It used to be open only for NMC students and graduates; this time, they opened it to the public.

“We’ve had career fairs but our focus used to be our NMC students and graduates. This year, we wanted to also share this opportunity to the island community, so we opened it to the public. We want all our NMC graduates to be placed in jobs,” said Deleon Guerrero.

According to Deleon Guerrero, 13 workshops led up to the career fair to make sure “everybody is prepared and gets hired.”

“We hope that our island community in general is successful,” she said.

vNMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez shared the same sentiments.

“We’ve never had a turnout like this before. I hope that everyone here gets a job. We have all these different companies participating,” she said.
