Monday is deadline to register for Charter Day Car Show, Singing Contest, and Battle of Bands (May 8, 2014)

The Northern Marianas College Charter Day Planning Committee is inviting individuals or groups who are interested in competing for the College’s Charter Day competitions that the deadline to register is Monday, May 12, 2014. The competitions include Marianas Idol, Battle of the Bands, and the Car Show Competition.

The Marianas Idol competition showcases the CNMI’s local singers while the Battle of the Bands allows local bands from different musical genres to compete. The Car Show will feature two categories: Hi Lux trucks and 2- and 4- door sport compact sedans.

The Northern Marianas College Charter Day, one of the islands’ biggest celebrations, will take place on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at NMC’s As Terlaje campus.

“The celebration be showcasing various programs, great food and thirst quenching drinks from many local vendors, and we will be featuring great live entertainment,” said Ervin Cruz, Charter Day Committee Chair.

Those interested in competing in any of the competitions can pick up an application form from the NMC Student Center in Building J, or can download application forms or rules at www.marianas.edu,. There is no application fee for any of the competitions, except for the Car Show, which will require a $25 registration fee.

Applications for the competitions are due Monday, May 12, 2014 by 5:00 pm. Contestants for the Marianas Idol and Battle of the Bands will be contacted no later than May 13, 2014, to schedule the dates and times for auditions.

For the Battle of the Bands, groups are required to bring their own equipment. In addition to inviting participants for the competitions, the Charter Day Planning Committee is also inviting agencies, businesses, clubs and other civic organizations to participate by purchasing booth space for the following categories: food/drink, game booths, retail (arts and crafts, toys etc.), and information.

The deadline to submit applications for booth spaces is on Friday, May 9, 2014. Booth space is limited so applications should be submitted as soon the deadline is announced. The booth fee is $75 for NMC clubs and nonprofit organizations and $150 for commercial vendors.
