The Northern Marianas College is seeking individuals or groups who are interested in competing for the College’s Charter Day competitions: Marianas Idol and the Battle of the Bands competition.

The Marianas Idol competition showcases the CNMI’s local singers while the Battle of the Bands allows local bands from different musical genres to compete.

The Northern Marianas College Charter Day, one of the islands’ biggest celebrations, will take place on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at NMC’s As Terlaje campus.

“We’ll be showcasing various programs, delicious food and thirst quenching drinks from many of the local vendors, and we will be featuring great entertainment,” said Ervin Cruz, Charter Day Committee Chair.

Those interested in competing in any of the competitions can pick up an application form from the NMC Student Center in Building J, or can download application forms or rules at There is no application fee for any of the competitions.

Applications for the competitions are due Friday, May 2, 2014 by 5:00 pm. Contestants will be contacted no later than May 3, 2014, to schedule the dates and times for auditions. The auditions for the Marianas Idol singing competition will be on May 8, 2014 at the Student Center, and the auditions for the Battle of the Bands will be held on May 7, 2014, at the Saipan Southern High School Band Room at 4:30 pm.

For the Battle of the Bands, groups are required to bring their own equipment. In addition to inviting participants for the competitions, the Charter Day Planning Committee is also inviting agencies, businesses, clubs and other civic organizations to participate by purchasing booth space for the following categories: food/drink, game booths, retail (arts and crafts, toys etc.), and information.

The deadline to submit applications for booth spaces is on Friday, May 9, 2014. Booth space is limited so applications should be submitted as soon the deadline is announced. The booth fee is $75 for NMC clubs and nonprofit organizations and $150 for commercial vendors.
