11 Individuals Complete Child Care Training by NMC and DCCA (January 24, 2013)

Eleven care providers from various day care centers and community members on Saipan recently completed a professional and personal development training program facilitated by the Northern Marianas College’s Community Development Institute (CDI).

The Community Development Institute awarded the participants certificates of competence during a recent ceremony hosted at NMC As Terlaje campus. The participants were also rewarded Continuing Education Units, which are units of credit for hours of participation in a program designed for professionals.

The 11 participants from the seventh cohort successfully completed a total of 70 hours of training during the nearly three-month long program. Topics that were covered included social-emotional growth and socialization, group care, learning and development, cultural, familial, and provider issues, and health and safety considerations.

“We are glad to assist these individuals enhance their professional skills and knowledge as they provide quality care services,” said Acting CDI Director Floyd Masga. “We are also happy to have helped a total of 104 individuals through this program since 2009.”

Dr. Sharon Hart, President of the Northern Marianas College said, “The College continues to boost the number of programs that provide personal enrichment and professional training to our workforce.” The program was offered through an agreement between the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs' (DCCA) Child Care Program and NMC's Community Development Institute (CDI), which is a program that offers a variety of professional courses in a range of fields including child care.
