Thirteen care providers from various day care centers in the CNMI recently completed a professional development training program facilitated by the Northern Marianas College’s Community Development Institute (CDI).

The participants were also rewarded Continuing Education Units, which are units of credit for hours of participation in a program designed for professionals.

The 13 participants from the sixth cohort successfully completed a total of 70 hours of instruction during the nearly four-month long program. Topics that were covered included social-emotional growth and socialization, group care, learning and development, cultural and familial issues, and health and safety considerations.

“We are glad to assist these individuals enhance their professional skills and knowledge to provide quality care services,” said Acting CDI Director Floyd Masga. “We are also happy to have helped a total of 93 individuals through this program since 2009.”

The program was offered through an agreement between the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs' (DCCA) Child Care Program and NMC's Community Development Institute (CDI), which is a program that offers a variety of developmental courses in a range of fields including child care.
